I Got My Endgame Encore Ticket — So What’s Changing?

Welcome back to a quicker episode of Marvel Maniac, an MCU after show. I'm your host, Eric Cicada, aka Mr. Honest, back with you to let you know, as the title says, I got my Endgame Encore ticket. I am pretty excited. I'm going back to see Avengers: Endgame in the theater 7 years later, and despite seeing it a million times plus on Disney Plus, I'm actually really excited. There's a few reasons and we'll talk about why. This isn't just watching Endgame, it's kind of just getting another chance to experience that movie with an audience. Will there still be clapping? Will we be one unified unit as a, as a fan base in that theater? The people who are coming back, are we the biggest fans or are we just fools for emptying our wallets to go see a movie we already seen 5 million times? Well, I think that depends on how you initially look at it going in. Portals, Captain America and Mjolnir, Avengers assemble, and Tony— all these big moments, we get to relive them all. So personally, I'm excited, okay? And this is kind of what I'm expecting. I don't think Marvel is gonna put 20 minutes of Doomsday into this movie. Um, the listed runtime is about 4 minutes extra, so it's very short. There's— they're going to be adding a few things, and some of the things I expect are some kind of introduction or maybe special presentation, you know, like by the Russo brothers, maybe Robert Downey Jr., a little additional material, something substantial at the end, maybe the post-credits. They never did a full post-credits at the end, end after the credits. So there could be just more there. Um, and there will be a Doomsday tease, and it changes how we interpret something we just watched according to the Russo brothers. Well, I, I can't imagine what that is, but I can kind of get around the idea that in the trailer Tony Stark says, you mess with time, time tends to mess back. If any of you know that line, he usually says You mess with time, it tends to mess back. It's very, very similar. It adds the word time again. Um, small difference but big implication. We don't know. I think it's gonna have to do with maybe Tony Snap. I'm wondering if we'll see him in the Soul Stone world, similar to how we saw Thanos talking to Gamora. We might get a scene of Tony talking to his daughter like that in the deleted scenes of Endgame. You can watch them on Disney Plus, or just a new Soul Stone uh, memory, or what should I say, alternate moment before he passes with maybe Pepper or someone different. Maybe Steve Rogers, who knows? Maybe it's a— maybe that's the door, you know, that leads to what we're wondering about, Doctor Doom. Not over-expecting. I do expect some sort of Doomsday tease that changes how we interpret something we just watched or have been watching for the last 7 years. Now here's a little bit more of what I hope they do. I want to see Steve return those stones. I want to see a montage post-credits scene of how that went. I want to see if it had implications, and I'm really hoping and betting on that being the reason we need to come see this again. Everyone's biggest question has been like, what was that journey like for Steve Rogers to go back through time to all these awkward moments to return the pieces? I don't think it went as smoothly as we all might have thought. We knew he did it somehow. He did some version of it because he ended up dancing with Peggy. But maybe on his way back, somewhere along the line, maybe it's taken him a longer time to figure out how to do this the right way. Maybe every single instance went wrong in one way or another, and that's when we start seeing incursions. The whole 4 minutes could be just this post-credits scene, and I'd be happy about that. We learned that time travel is completely messing with the multiverse. Maybe even like tie it back to a crazy loop that proves that the Avengers actually created the multiverse with this trip to return the stones after getting them and snapping them all in different— from all these stones from different universes. Maybe the snaps broke the other realities because the stones weren't technically meant to be used outside of their own. That'd be something interesting. Um, the consequences of reversing the snap would definitely fall into that category. Branching timelines, something Strange saw. Maybe it's a little bit more of what Strange saw in that vision of his. That'd be cool. Something that maybe happened during the final battle that we didn't understand or didn't catch or added because I think we would have caught like a hidden thing by now. But who knows? Maybe Joe and Anthony Russo are laughing because they're like they didn't notice this. Another really solid reason to go see this movie aside from all the extra stuff added is the color grading they did. It's almost like they. Did a remaster of the colors in this movie. You could go watch the trailer, there's comparisons online. The movie looks beautiful, and it's honestly something I want them to go back and do what I call a remaster of the Infinity Saga. Yes, it'll be like a very George Lucas-y thing without changing too many things, but maybe fixing CGI on earlier appearances of Thanos. Uh, certain moments that led up to Endgame can maybe be retconned into like a little bit more forward of a foreshadow to like the events to come. Just tighten everything up. Remasters don't have to be something that is bad. People associate George Lucas's changes in retrospect. That's what creative people do. So maybe that's just my creative brain lashing out at this and wanting to see just the perfect product of what the Infinity Saga brought out, which was already pretty much perfect in my opinion. Now there's the things I don't want to see. And honestly, the color grading is a good reason to set yourself up for enjoying the movie in a new way. Just more clear, more HD, seeing things in a certain light literally that you haven't seen before. But I don't want to sit through three hours, three incredible hours, but watch Tony die again in the credits roll. And pretty much thanks you for thank you for watching. Here's an extended Doomsday trailer. Though I think it's the trailer we've already seen. know, but like maybe with like a different shot of Doctor Doom from a different angle of his mask. That's not required viewing, that is marketing. And if Marvel is using language like required viewing, you're setting an expectation that there's story information here that matters. Saying people who saw the original couldn't have seen what's coming to make the promise even bigger. I mean, if there isn't even a hint of that, I'm going to be a little bit offended and lose a little bit of trust with the Russo Brothers slash the MCU. Because if this is just to get our butts into seats to break the Endgame record and have it beat Avatar, that is not cool. That will be very— that will be very not cool. They— if they wanted to be— put— just re-put it out there so people could see the movie before, just as a nostalgic thing— hey, we're putting Endgame back out, we color graded it, check it out— and then not put anything in there, fine. We're going in knowing that we're just seeing the same movie we always saw. But there has been a lot of pushing in the direction of there's something in this movie that's going to change the way we see the movie and going forward Doomsday. It's going to connect the movies. I haven't watched Endgame like this since 2019 in theaters. Not on my TV, not while scrolling through my phone, not as a part of an MCU marathon. Just a dark theater, giant screen, Marvel fans around me, and now everybody in the theater knows another Avengers movie is months away. It's a completely different energy. And for 3 hours, you get to briefly go back to 2019 while simultaneously looking toward 2026, and that is kind of beautiful in its own right. Now, pulling this all together, the thing I can't get past is Back to the Russo Brothers. Joe Russo didn't say it's fun to revisit, didn't merely say it'll refresh your memory. He said it connects the stories and called it required viewing for following Doomsday. So something has to happen. Maybe it's 4 minutes, maybe it's one scene, maybe it's an end tag. Maybe we're going to look at a moment we've known since 2019 completely differently. But Marvel has now created that expectation. I didn't buy an Endgame Encore ticket because I forgot what happens in Endgame. I bought one because the Russo Brothers just told me that somehow Endgame isn't finished yet.
